Evening Shade

I really come alive with the evening shade. That's when the sun slips behind the western eaves and the patio is dappled with the shade cast from the willow tree. That's when it's finally cool enough for even fire ants come above ground to scavenge. Seriously, it's so hot they stay indoors too, to wait for the evening shade. Evening. That's when it's time to replenish the bird baths for the second or third time because the winds from the Sahara wicks away all the moisture in a trade of grit-for-wet. And that's when JC walks to the mailbox, in the evening shade.

There was mail today. All hail, mail! Mail in both boxes. Dodson, D.'s cool postcard brought back memories of summers in Colorado. Cold streams, fresh trout, cooler temps, and evening shade. Dodson, you've got it made. In the shade, huh? Thanks for the snow- capped-mountain memories. This was a good mail day. A happy mail day! I get some of the best mail in Texas. Thank you, y'all!

Thanks to JC, mail went out. Finally. Not a little. Not a lot.

Most of it's two days old--inspired by the final night of the Olympic Trials. Did you watch? I did. My favorite events were track and field, swimming, and gymnastics. Simone Biles is practically a neighbor. A Texas-style neighbor. She made me holler. How dare she fall off the balance beam? And Laurie Hernandez? Shucks, what can I say? The child fell off the parallel bars. Oh my goodness gracious. Flat on her front. It's a good thing they don't have breasts to speak of.  She showed her true mettle though, so this bird on the uneven bars is dedicated to Laurie. And Gabby, who makes me smh and bite my nails. The new Fab 5 are on the road to rio.

Wait. See what I did? In my excitement I forgot to address the tribute! Hahaha!

A quick fix and ta-da! It's good to go. I call the mistake my Gabby Douglas. No offense intended. Performance anxiety and I were once second cousins.

My gymnast hangs suspended over the gold. Did you notice? The Road to Rio is paved with gold! Ahem.

Will you join me in showing support for our athletes via mail? Fine Tec's watercolors are spectacular. Thank you, Lindsey, from The Postman's Knock for introducing us. You can find them in single pans, sets of four, six, and twelve. Use a little or a lot of gold on your envelopes. Send a ittle gold and a shout-out to teams USA! Make them hear us all the way in rio! Just don't go yourself. Zika is on the prowl. BTW. Would you go or stay away? To Rio, I mean.

USA! USA! USA!

Be well.

  1. :) Hot and humid here in Louisiana, too. The tomatoes stopped flowering weeks ago due to the heat. Love your envelopes!

    1. Wow. I thought tomatoes loved heat. The only greenery that's holding its own in our neighborhood is the live oak.

Aw, thank you. I get to be as silly as I want on envelopes. :)

    1. See? I don't get why people feel about about pulling out of the Olympics. No one knows the lasting effects that might be a result of the virus and potential parents should not risk their changes for a future healthy child.

I'm an introvert, therefore I cannot live without inversion. Most artists I know are the same way but I didn't know it until I met a school filled with other artists. I finally felt at home. JC is almost the opposite although he's a structural designer. :) Please don't worry for me. I'd feel bad if you did. My down days make my up days so much better. Remember: The light wouldn't look so good without the dark. Thanks for caring about me. And, yes! Gold all the way but silver will do in a pinch. LOL.

      Be well.
