Up An Insidious Cent

Would it be fair to call the penny rate increase insidious? Why only a penny when they know they're going to increase it again after the hike takes effect in January? Won't printing in increments cost more? Why not take a five cent leap and be done with it for six months? Or fifteen cents? Trying to sneak in increases by degrees won't make us stop using the mail. What alternative would we have?

Oh. Okay. Have you seen the site that sends snail mail via e-mail? Or is it vice versa? A company here is also running a radio commercial that tries to convince you to buy electricity "only as you  you need it." You're asked, "Why pay for electricity you don't need?" I live in Texas, in case you forget. Carpetbaggers are still traipsing here, trying to sell us flying carpets. I don't know about you, but if I pay for electricity ahead of time, need more . . . What do I do, call and ask you to give me about $5 more? And if I need only $.30 more, will you give me a refund? Probably not, since they accept cash and credit cards only.

Hold on.

Insidious: insidious |inˈsidēəs|
adjectiveproceeding in a gradual, subtle way, but with harmful effects: sexually transmitted diseases can be insidious and sometimes without symptoms.• treacherous; crafty: tangible proof of an insidious alliance.
Anyone here watch the movie Insidious? Hmm. I did. A certain someone kept recommending it, so I watched it last night.  I made this postcard two weeks or so ago. Talk about precognition? LOL. Not! Well, maybe, huh?
Need a use for all those selvages left over from panes? Check out this one:

Ta-da! Front and back, I used them. The colors are just right for the strip at the bottom. (see front) I still remember the basic principles of graphic design.

So. What do YOU think of the penny increase? I want to use penny-ante, so I did. Are you a poker player? How high are you willing to go? It costs only 44 pennies for me to send Susan mail, yet it takes 1 day and 11 hours to travel from Katy to Richland, WA.

    Go figure.

  2. Shel Silverstein is one of my favorites. I can recall checking his books out of the library before I could read very well. I always loved his rhymes. I know that is highly off topic as far as the post is concerned, but I thought it should be mentioned.

I agree that the rate should increase more than a penny. I hate the constant changes. But at least we don't have to purchase rolls of 1 penny stamps to make up the difference. =) There is always a bright side.

I just wanted to let you know that I haven't forgotten you. I wrote a thank you for your very sweet and thoughtful gift, then it got mislaid and I only just found it a short while ago. In the meantime, I received your letter a few minutes ago. I will be sending you the thank you note and a letter in reply to the one I received today. It may take me a day or two to get it written. (You will understand once you get the letter.) You're in my thoughts and prayers. Take care of yourself, please. You are too wonderful not to. (You don't have to post this comment. I just wanted to let you know I received yours and you will be receiving mine.) Blessings to you!

  4. Thank, Henderica. Not sure how I missed these comments. Lord knows I am grateful for every one.

Did you share the Halloween cross stitching? I have something to share with you soon. I just need to remember to photo and send.

Misty! Erin and I read his books out loud--taking turns. I sent a copy of one book to a friend's twins in Manchester, UK.

You're absolutely right, but I don't mind the penny stamps. The more the merrier. Someone gets a job each time a new stamp is decided upon. Besides, if there hadn't been a penny ante increase, I wouldn't have had a decent thing to rant about. :)
