Her: Next person in line please.
Me: Hello. I need to buy International Stamps. How much are they?
Her: They're 98 cents each, ma'am.
Me: I need 20.
Her: Will there be anything else for you today?
Me: Yes, do you still sell air mail envelopes?
Her: No. We don't sell air mail envelopes because all mail goes by air now.
Me: Wow. I didn't know that. No wonder I can't find air mail envelopes any more.
I paid for the stamps, thanked Her, and left. Half-way home it dawned on me: She lied. I saw a USPS mail truck the last time we drove home from Dallas. It passed us on I-45, traveling in the opposite direction: from Houston to Dallas. The large letters on the 18 wheeler clearly read U.S. Mail.
It wasn't until several weeks later that I discovered the little air plane on the International Stamp. Well, imagine that! No need to print AIR MAIL beneath the postage, for real.
Do you see it?
